Nirannchana’s Inspiring Return to Data Analytics Career

Restarting a career in the IT industry after a long break can be challenging, especially in the rapidly evolving field of data analytics. Nirannchana’s inspiring journey demonstrates how consistency, confidence, and continuous learning can help professionals successfully return to the tech industry. After nearly 10 years away from IT, she secured a Data Analyst role in Chennai through focused upskilling and practical learning. Her story motivates many aspiring learners exploring IT courses in Chennai to build industry-ready analytics and technology skills.

1. Can you introduce yourself and share your background?

I’m Nirannchana, and I come from an IT background. After working earlier in the industry, I took a long career break to explore my personal interests and hobbies. Later, I decided to restart my career in IT and chose to learn Data Science at DataMites. The learning journey was very structured and practical, which helped me gradually rebuild my technical confidence and prepare for a career in analytics. Currently, I am working at TrioWorkz Technologies, where I work on analytics reporting, AWS Lambda functions, and testing-related activities.

2. How was your learning experience during the Data Science course?

The experience was very good because the curriculum was designed in a structured manner, and the trainers provided proper guidance for interviews, projects, and technical concepts. I consistently spent around two to three hours daily learning and practicing concepts. The project guidance especially helped me understand practical applications, which later supported me in cracking interviews and improving my technical knowledge and essential data analyst skills required in the industry.

3. When did you complete your course and projects?

The course was completed around April 2025, and after that, I continued working on projects for another three months. Initially, I joined along with a group, but later I completed my projects independently, which helped me gain deeper understanding and hands-on experience while solving problems on my own.

4. Was returning to programming difficult after a long gap?

Since I had previous programming exposure nearly 10 years ago, I wasn’t completely new to coding, but restarting after such a long gap was definitely challenging. Initially, adapting to programming again was not easy, but through continuous learning and regular practice, I slowly became comfortable working with coding and analytics tools again.

5. What technologies do you currently work with in your job?

Currently, I work with Python coding and AWS Lambda functions as part of my role. My work involves generating reports related to content-sharing products, handling analytics tasks, and working with DynamoDB, which is a NoSQL database. Since the company is a startup, I also work on testing activities along with analytics responsibilities.

6. How did you prepare yourself for interviews?

Consistency played a major role in my interview preparation. Initially, I attended mock interviews organized during the course and later practiced interviews with friends as well. At first, I struggled with confidence and clarity, but over time I realized that regular preparation and consistent practice were the key factors. Once I became more confident, I started applying actively and eventually received two job offers.

7. Why did you choose your current company and role?

At the time I was applying, the market conditions were difficult, especially for freshers. One of the first offers I received was related to sales and marketing, which was not aligned with my interests. Later, one of my friends referred me to my current company in Chennai, and after attending the interview, I felt the role matched my career goals better because it was focused more on analytics and reporting, which is what I wanted to pursue.

8. What does your day-to-day work look like as a Data Analyst?

My daily work mainly involves generating reports related to advertisements displayed on content-sharing platforms. I work on client-based and attachment-based reporting while handling data stored in DynamoDB. Apart from analytics tasks, testing activities also happen in parallel because it’s a startup environment. I also participate in client-facing discussions and meetings where findings and reports are presented regularly.

9. What are your future career goals?

Currently, my focus is on upskilling further in AWS technologies because I see increasing demand for cloud-related skills everywhere in the industry. I am preparing for AWS certifications and continuously learning new concepts that can help me position myself better in future technical roles and expand my expertise in analytics and cloud technologies.

10. How do you manage work and continuous learning together?

The certifications I’m pursuing are online, which gives me flexibility to learn. Fortunately, my workplace is very supportive, and my manager encourages continuous upskilling. I even get some time during office hours to prepare for certifications. Whenever needed, I take short breaks, spend time learning, and then continue my work. This balance has helped me maintain both professional growth and learning consistency.

11. What advice would you give to beginners entering data analytics?

My biggest advice is to stay consistent and focused. Instead of trying to learn everything at once, it’s better to focus on one concept or technology at a time and practice it regularly. Even spending one hour daily with proper focus can create significant improvement over time. I truly believe that consistency can change careers because if I could restart my journey after 10 years, anyone can do it with determination and practice.
