Q&A with Shreya: Her Journey from Beginner to AI Developer
Discover how Shreya transformed from a complete beginner into a skilled AI Developer through dedication, learning, and hands-on experience.
Q1: Can you share a quick introduction about yourself?
My name is Shreya, and I belong to Patna, Bihar. I completed my schooling in Patna and later pursued my B.Tech from Techno India University, Kolkata, graduating in June 2024 with a CGPA of 8.23. Initially, I was skeptical about my career direction, but with guidance from a mentor who was also a DataMites alumni, I decided to join the DataMites Data Science course in Bangalore in January 2024.
Q2: How was your overall experience with DataMites training?
It was a great learning experience. Offline classes made a huge difference as mentors guided us step by step. Coding was hands-on, and I made good friends and connections. It was my first time in Bangalore, and apart from learning, the exposure and environment added to my growth.
Q3: Where are you currently placed, and what is your role?
I got placed at Kingsman Realty, a real estate company that helps clients find suitable properties. My role is that of a Python and AI Developer, where I focus on building and deploying machine learning models, chatbots, and AI solutions.
Q4: What kind of interview questions were asked during your placement drive?
The placement process included 2–3 rounds with coding and technical assessments. Questions were based on Python, machine learning, deep learning, and project work. While the level of questions was moderate, the focus was primarily on implementation skills rather than just theoretical knowledge. They also asked me to write pseudocode and workflows for certain AI solutions.
Q5: How did DataMites help you with resume preparation and placements?
The placement assistance team at DataMites helped me a lot. I revised my resume 4–5 times under their guidance. They encouraged me to focus more on projects rather than unnecessary details like hobbies. Recruiters pay close attention to the projects you have completed and the technologies you worked on, so DataMites helped me structure my resume effectively.
Q6: What other support did you receive apart from resume and placements?
Apart from resume building and mock interviews, DataMites also provided hands-on projects, continuous mentor guidance, and peer learning opportunities. The trainers explained concepts clearly and focused on making sure our fundamentals were strong.
Q7: Can someone without a technical background succeed in data science?
Absolutely. Data science is more about skills and projects than your academic background. As I shared earlier, my mentor came from a non-technical field but secured a strong role in the industry after completing his data science training.
Q8: How much mathematics is required for machine learning interviews?
While most companies won’t ask you to derive formulas or solve complex calculus, you should still understand the mathematics behind algorithms for your own clarity.
Q9: How helpful are the interview preparation sessions conducted by DataMites?
These sessions go beyond the standard curriculum and help students stay updated with the latest industry requirements. For instance, I requested an RNN session, and they conducted it during the weekend. Such flexibility and practical training give an extra edge in interviews.
Q10: What advice do you have for beginners learning Python for data science?
Start with the basics of Python like printing prime numbers, factorials, and strings rather than rushing into advanced topics. Focus on understanding logic, not memorizing. Practice at least the top 50–100 coding problems to strengthen your fundamentals. Companies often ask questions from strings, lists, and basic data structures, so clarity in these areas is crucial.
