Q1: Could you please introduce yourself and your background?

I'm Vilas Mawal from Maharashtra. I graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 2016. After that, I spent around four to five years preparing for government job exams. When I decided to move on, I explored IT careers and came across DataMites Institute online. I enrolled in the data science course in June 2022.

Q2: What was your experience with programming and statistics before joining the course?

Honestly, it was zero. I had an interest in mathematics but no background in programming or statistics. I was always curious to learn programming, but I never had a chance to explore it before DataMites.

Q3: Who were your mentors during the course and how was the initial learning experience?

My initial mentor was Mr. S.P., and later I was mentored by Ms. Neha Jagani. Both were excellent. I found learning Python very enjoyable, and with consistent practice over 2–3 months, I became confident in it.

Q4: How did you find learning statistics?

It was slightly overwhelming initially, but after referring to the DataMites handbooks and doing consistent practice, it became much easier. Since I enjoyed math, I quickly developed an interest in statistics.

Q5: What was your experience with machine learning?

Machine learning was one of the most exciting parts of the course. Though it's lengthy, it's not difficult if you're consistent. I found computer vision particularly fascinating and did related projects.

Q6: How many projects did you work on?

I worked on five projects at DataMites, including a live IT service management project. Additionally, I completed a deep learning project via Kaggle and developed an OCR project independently.

Q7: What was your internship and placement journey like?

After completing my course and projects, I resumed internship in January and completed it by April. I attended four interviews in total. I failed the first three but identified my weak points—mainly in Python—and improved. I got placed in the fourth interview through the DataMites Placement Assistance Team.

Q8: Which topics were mostly asked in interviews?

Most questions were on SQL, Python basics, user-defined functions, loops, and logic-building. While deep learning wasn’t covered in my interview, SQL was especially important for the role.

Q9: What is your current role and company?

I'm placed as a Junior Data Analyst at AIMLEAP, a US-based IT services firm in Bangalore. My interview included three rounds: assessment, technical, and HR.

Q10: What advice do you have for data science aspirants?

Practice is key. You don’t need to be a coding expert—just consistent. Work on real problems, revise regularly, and build confidence. Use resources like DataMites, Kaggle, and ChatGPT to strengthen your understanding.

Q11: What were the most helpful resources for you during learning?

The DataMites handbook for statistics was more than enough. I also used ChatGPT for coding help and explored Kaggle for real-world datasets and solutions.

Definitely. Certifications get you shortlisted, but your skills land you the job. DataMites certification helped me gain credibility in the interview process.
