Q1: Can you briefly introduce yourself?

My name is Amar Sharma. I’m originally from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, and currently staying in Bangalore. I completed my B.Tech in 2018 and then started working as a freelancer in digital marketing, specifically in social media marketing and PPC campaigns. Later, I transitioned to data science and joined the DataMites Certified Data Scientist course in February 2023.

Q2: What motivated you to switch from digital marketing to data science?

While I worked as a freelancer in digital marketing, the industry became unstable, especially in the social media admin market. I enjoyed doing lead generation analysis and wanted to explore data-driven careers. That’s when I discovered data science. After consulting with a friend in the IT industry who recommended DataMites, I made the decision to move to Bangalore and enroll in the offline data science course.

Q5: Were you familiar with Python or statistical tools before joining the course?

No, I had no prior experience with Python or tools like Power BI. I did some basic analysis in Excel during my digital marketing days, but I wasn't an expert. The course introduced me to Python, Pandas, Power BI, and other essential data science tools.

Q6: How did you approach learning statistics?

Since I had an engineering background, I was somewhat familiar with basic statistics. However, topics like hypothesis testing were new. It took me around 15 days to understand all the core statistical concepts with consistent study and support from the course.

Q7: How did your digital marketing background help you in data science?

My digital marketing experience, especially with PPC campaigns and lead analysis, helped me understand data and performance metrics. Once I learned data analysis tools, I could relate them to my past work, which gave me an edge in understanding business problems from a data perspective.

Q8: Was learning Python difficult for someone from a civil engineering background?

Initially, yes. Python seemed new and a bit overwhelming. But once I started attending structured classes, I found it manageable. With daily practice and proper guidance, I became comfortable. Challenges in Python were many, but consistent practice helped overcome them.

Q9: What helped you learn machine learning quickly?

I think it was my business sense and analytical mindset developed from freelancing. I was already analyzing business data, so transitioning into machine learning felt natural. Although machine learning is considered tough and usually takes 2–3 months to master, my background helped me learn it faster.

Q10: What’s your advice for people from non-technical backgrounds who want to learn AI?

Don’t get discouraged by your background. I’m a living example from civil engineering to AI. It’s possible with the right mindset, training, and consistency. Many people hold back just because they assume they’re not qualified. But if you start, stay disciplined, and keep practicing, it’s achievable.

Q11: Can you share about the live project you worked on?

Yes, I worked on a Lead Scoring AI Model to categorize leads as high, medium, or low potential. This project helps businesses prioritize leads with higher chances of conversion. It’s similar to models used in CRMs like Salesforce, Zoho, and HubSpot.

Q12: How did you overcome the initial challenges in learning coding and data science concepts?

In the beginning, I faced a lot of difficulties. The first 7–10 days were quite tough. But after consistent practice, solving coding challenges became interesting and easier. The key is persistence and participating in regular practice sessions and challenges.

Q13: How many interviews did you attend after completing the DataMites course?

I received 2 interview calls post-course completion. I couldn’t clear the first one, but I cracked the second and secured a job offer. Both interview opportunities came through the DataMites placement team.

Q14: Did all the interview calls come through DataMites?

Yes, both interview calls were facilitated by the DataMites placement team. I also applied via LinkedIn and Naukri.com, but did not receive calls from those platforms.

Q15: What is your advice to students still pursuing AIML courses in engineering?

While engineering courses provide foundational knowledge, practical skill-building, coding practice, and real-world project exposure through platforms like DataMites greatly enhance job readiness. It’s important to supplement academic learning with hands-on experience and mentorship.
