Farjad's Journey as a Lead Data Analyst
Datamites data analyst course success story by Farjad

Every success story starts with a single step in the decision to turn potential into purpose. At DataMites, we take pride in empowering learners to achieve their dreams through expert guidance and practical learning. Today, we celebrate the inspiring journey of Farjad Meir, now a Lead Data Analyst at Teleperformance and a proud DataMites alumnus. His story exemplifies how passion, persistence, and the right mentorship can transform an aspiring learner into a successful leader in data analytics.

Farjad’s inspiring career path to becoming a data analyst

Farjad’s inspiring career journey as a data analyst proves how pursuing IT courses in demand can open doors to rewarding opportunities, transforming skills into an emerging data-driven profession.

Q1: Tell us a bit about yourself and your professional journey.

I’m originally from Srinagar and hold a degree in Computer Science Engineering. Right after completing my engineering, I entered the world of data science, something I was passionate about from the very beginning. I currently work as a Lead Data Analyst at Teleperformance, managing a team of five analysts. Prior to this, I served as both a Data Analyst and later as a Data Scientist in another company. My foundation in computer science gave me strong programming skills, which I later complemented with hands-on data analytics and machine learning expertise through DataMites training.

Q2: How did your learning journey in data science begin?

During my engineering days, I focused on mastering core programming languages like C++ and Python. Once I got comfortable with coding, I moved to libraries like Pandas and NumPy to handle and manipulate data. My first internship involved machine learning, where I realized that understanding clean datasets alone wasn’t enough. I needed to grasp how data was collected, cleaned, and modeled.

That’s when I joined DataMites, which truly changed my career direction. The mentors helped me dive deep into mathematics, statistics, and model interpretation, helping me understand why models behave a certain way rather than just how to use them.

Q3: How did your experience at DataMites help shape your career?

DataMites was one of the most enriching learning experiences I’ve had. The trainers were incredibly supportive, ensuring we understood both the theoretical and practical aspects of data science. Even after sessions ended, my mentor continued to guide me through real-world questions and projects.

At DataMites, I developed a mindset to approach every data problem holistically from data collection and preprocessing to analytics and predictive modeling. This approach played a huge role in helping me secure my first job as a Data Analyst, and later, a promotion to Data Scientist.

Q4: What kind of challenges do you face in your current role as a Lead Data Analyst?

The biggest challenge isn’t machine learning itself it’s data integration and preparation. Our organization sources data from 20+ systems, each with different structures. My team and I spent nearly seven months creating a unified data model to ensure smooth analytics and automation.

Once that’s in place, the machine learning part becomes much easier. In fact, 60–70% of any project’s time goes into preparing and validating the data rather than modeling it.

Q5: How important are mathematics and statistics in data science today?

Extremely important! Even though tools are evolving, the mathematical understanding behind models is what truly differentiates a skilled data scientist. When models fail to deliver, it’s often because we’ve overlooked the statistical foundations or feature engineering aspects.

While day-to-day roles might not always require manual derivations, the understanding of why and how algorithms work remains essential.

Q6: How do you differentiate between a Data Analyst and a Data Scientist role?

A Data Analyst focuses on analyzing, reporting, and interpreting data trends answering questions like what happened and why? They’re usually experts in visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau, and SQL.

On the other hand, a Data Scientist deals with predictive modeling, AI, and machine learning, answering what will happen next and how can we optimize it?

Those who love problem-solving, statistics, and advanced algorithms will enjoy the data scientist role, while those who enjoy visual insights and reporting might find data analytics more fulfilling.

Q7: Many people fear that AI and tools like ChatGPT will replace data analyst jobs. What’s your take?

AI tools can assist, but not replace data professionals. Generative AI models can automate simple insights when data is structured, but they can’t replicate human understanding of business logic, data collection processes, and problem context.

In fact, these tools will create more specialized roles that blend AI with human intelligence. Companies will still need analysts and scientists to validate, interpret, and make strategic decisions based on AI-generated insights.

Q8: What advice would you give to aspiring data analysts and scientists?

Be patient and consistent. Learning data analytics or data science doesn’t happen overnight. Focus on building a strong base in programming, statistical tools, and real-world problem-solving.

Most importantly, apply what you learn. When I was at DataMites, I implemented every concept immediately after learning it and that hands-on approach made all the difference. And remember, continuous learning is key technology evolves fast, but curiosity and discipline will keep you ahead.

Q9: How would you summarize your career growth so far?

It’s been a fulfilling journey from a passionate student to a professional leading a team. DataMites gave me the foundation, and my curiosity helped me grow into a leadership role. Every challenge, every project, and every dataset has taught me something new about patience, precision, and problem-solving.

Q10: What would you like to say about DataMites to future learners?

I owe a big part of my success to DataMites. The institute not only strengthened my conceptual knowledge but also gave me practical exposure through real-time projects and mentorship. It’s the perfect place for anyone serious about building a career in Data Analytics or Data Science with placement support. The trainers’ guidance and career support truly make a difference.
