Through structured training at DataMites Institute, hands-on projects, internship experience, and interview preparation, she developed confidence in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and took her first step toward a professional career.
Q1. Could you tell us how your journey began?
Hi, I’m Sharanya. I come from a BBA background, and I started my Data Science and AI Engineering courses with DataMites. It was a completely new field for me, but I wanted to explore something different and build new skills. I completed my projects and internship around February or March, and after that, I started looking for job opportunities. Fortunately, I got the opportunity to join Pracverse as a Gen AI Associate in July, and I’m really happy about it.
Q2. What motivated you to choose Data Science and Artificial Intelligence?
I wanted to explore something new, improve my skills, and understand how technologies like ChatGPT work behind the scenes. That curiosity motivated me to learn Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.
Q3. You come from a BBA background. How did you find the transition into a technical field?
I came from a BBA background, so Data Science and AI Engineering were new areas for me. I took offline classes, and the trainers helped me understand the basics. After that, I also spent time learning and exploring the topics on my own to understand them better.
Q4. How was your overall learning experience during the course?
My overall experience at the DataMites institute was good. The trainers explained the fundamentals well, and since the topics were new to me, I also practiced outside the classes. Gradually, I became more comfortable with Data Science and Artificial Intelligence concepts.
Q5. How important was practice while learning Python and Machine Learning?
Practice was very important for me. The training helped me understand the concepts, but I also practiced on my own. Working on code and Machine Learning helped me understand the topics better, especially coming from a different background.
Q6. Can you tell us about the projects you completed during your learning journey?
I took two courses, Certified Data Scientist and AI Engineering. Together, I worked on around 10 projects and one client project. Every project gave me an opportunity to learn something different because the work involved coding, analysis, and other practical activities.
Q7. What was your experience when you started working on the projects independently?
Initially, it was quite difficult. Understanding a topic in class was different from applying it to a project, so I took time to get comfortable. But as I completed more projects, I gradually became more confident.
Q8. How was your experience with the mock interviews?
I attended two mock interviews. My first one was challenging because I was nervous and not fully prepared. I mainly wanted to understand the interview process and the type of questions asked. Coding questions were especially challenging to solve on the spot.
Q9. What kind of preparation material helped you before the interviews?
There was a three to four-month gap between my training and mock interviews because I was working on projects. The placement team provided interview topics and programming questions, which helped me revise. I also practiced some questions on my own.
Q10. How did the placement team support you during your job search?
The placement team helped me prepare my resume during the project phase by providing a sample for reference. After completing my resume, I started mock interviews and received actual interview opportunities. I applied for them and eventually received a call from Pracverse.
Q11. Based on your interview experience, what skills are important for an AI or Data Science role?
From my experience, technical skills and coding skills are very important. Interviewers want to know whether you understand the concepts and whether you can apply them through coding. Communication skills are also important because you need to explain your knowledge and communicate clearly during the interview.
Q12. What advice would you give to freshers who want to enter Artificial Intelligence or Data Science?
I would say that patience is very important. I also had moments when I felt impatient during my job search, but I continued waiting and trying. The job market can be challenging, and getting a job can take time. Internships can also be a good way to begin gaining experience. Most importantly, you should continue learning and keep improving your skills.
