Q) Can we know about your background, Santhosh?

I graduated from the University of Delhi with a bachelor’s degree in botany. After which I worked as a sales support on Flipkart. When I learned about the developing disciplines of data science and machine learning, which are gaining a lot of traction in the industry, I knew I wanted to pursue a job in this field. I didn’t come from a technical background and had no programming expertise, so I wasn’t sure if I could do it. But there was no turning back when I learned about DataMites Certified Data Scientist Program, which is specifically designed for freshers.

Q) How do you feel after getting a job at Capgemini?

I want to express my gratitude to Ashok Sir, Shubhangi Ma’am, and all of my DataMites mentors for providing me with an exceptional data science training experience; without them, I doubt I would have passed my Capgemini interview and landed a position as a data scientist. I possessed no prior understanding of data science. They helped me every step of the way, instilling in me the confidence to take on the data science position. I’m excited to apply all of the knowledge and abilities I’ve gained at DataMites to my new position.

Q) What advice would you give to those wishing to make a career out of data science?

An important aspect I’d like to stress is that you need not acquire a comprehensive knowledge of every facet within data science. Rather, concentrate on acquiring expertise in the areas that are pivotal for securing a job in the field. Machine learning, logistic regression, and algorithms are examples of areas where you should concentrate. There is a platform called D-Tribe in which I was able to post my doubts and that would be cleared in no time. Such initiatives from DataMites really helped.

Q) What was your learning strategy at DataMites?

My DataMites mentors were extremely helpful and supportive in resolving all of my questions and thoroughly explaining each topic to us. After each class, I would go home and practise what I had learned that day; I didn’t believe in the “save it for another day” technique. It’s crucial to apply everything you’ve learned in practical scenarios. Continue to practise and gain knowledge of the themes. Always be on the lookout for innovative algorithms and problem-solving strategies. Address any questions you might have.

Q) Is prior programming experience required for data science?

That was not an issue for me because I had no prior knowledge of data science, python, or any other programming language when I began. I simply gave everything I had to the subjects I was completely unfamiliar with and intrigued by.

Q) Was getting a data science job as a fresher easy?

No, it was not the case.  I am a complete newcomer, and the past three interviews I attended resulted in no employment offers. But I don’t keep grudges, and I am convinced that if I fail an interview, it is because I need to improve and upskill more. I attempted to transform my flaws into assets.
