Harish’s Data Science Career Journey

Starting a career in Data Science from a different academic background can be challenging, but Harish’s journey shows how curiosity and practical learning can create new opportunities. Coming from an Electronics and Communication background, his interest in AI and Machine Learning led him to pursue Data Science training in Chennai and begin his professional journey.

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself?

Hi, I’m Harish. I come from an Electronics and Communication (EC) background. During my final year, I worked on a robotics project where I integrated AI and Machine Learning models. This experience developed my interest in Machine Learning and encouraged me to build my career in Data Science. I joined DataMites in Chennai to gain the skills and practical knowledge required to enter this field.

2. What made you choose Data Science as a career?

My interest in Data Science started during my final-year project. While working on a robot and integrating AI and Machine Learning models, I became interested in how these technologies could be used to solve real-world problems. I started looking for a suitable institute and found DataMites in Chennai. The training helped me understand the concepts and develop the skills needed for my career.

3. How was your experience learning at DataMites Chennai?

My experience was very good. I attended the offline classes at DataMites Chennai. The trainer explained the concepts clearly and also focused on practical learning. The sessions helped me improve my technical knowledge and gave me confidence in working with Data Science concepts.

4. What topics did you learn during the Data Science course?

The course started with Python basics and gradually moved to SQL, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and real-world projects. The concepts were taught step by step, which made them easier to understand. The trainer was also very helpful and approachable whenever I had doubts.

5. How did the practical projects help you?

The projects were very helpful because they allowed me to apply the theoretical concepts I had learned. I completed multiple projects during my training, including major and smaller projects. These projects improved my practical knowledge and also helped me during interviews because I was able to explain my work and the approaches I used.

6. Did the projects help you during the interviews?

Yes, definitely. During the technical interview, I was asked about my projects and how I had worked on them. I had to explain the project objectives, the techniques I used, and how I approached the problem. Since I had worked on the projects practically, I was able to explain them with confidence.

7. How did the mock interviews help you prepare?

I attended two mock interviews. They were very useful because they helped me understand the interview process and identify the areas where I needed improvement. During my first mock interview, I made some mistakes and received feedback from the faculty. I worked on that feedback and improved my preparation. By the second mock interview, I was much more confident.

8. What resources did you use for interview preparation?

The handwritten notes provided by the trainer were very helpful. I also used the official learning resources available through the DataMites cloud platform. These resources helped me revise the concepts and prepare for the interviews.

9. How did the placement team help you?

The placement team was very helpful throughout the process. They acted as a communication bridge between me and the companies and helped coordinate the interview process. I would especially like to thank Vaishnavi Donavi for the support and guidance provided during my placement journey.

10. How many client interviews did you attend before getting selected?

I attended three client interviews before getting selected. Every interview gave me a new learning experience. They helped me understand what companies were looking for, especially when it came to explaining projects and demonstrating technical knowledge. Each interview also increased my confidence.

11. Can you tell us about your interview process?

There were three rounds in the interview process. The first was an aptitude round, followed by a technical interview and then an HR discussion. In the technical round, I was asked questions about my projects along with basic questions related to Python and SQL. My project knowledge helped me a lot during this round.

12. What was your experience cracking the Data Scientist interview?

It was a very good learning experience. The interviews tested both my technical understanding and my ability to explain my projects. My preparation through the course, projects, mock interviews, and regular practice helped me approach the interview with confidence. Finally, I was selected for a Data Scientist role at Scopex, and I am very happy about this opportunity.

13. What advice would you give to freshers who want to enter Data Science?

My advice is to focus on learning the fundamentals well. Complete your projects sincerely and practice regularly. Do not be afraid of interviews. Every interview is a learning experience that helps you identify your weaknesses and improve. Most importantly, do not get discouraged by rejection. Rejection is a part of the journey and can become a step toward success if you learn from it.

14. Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

Getting my first Data Scientist job is just the first step in my career. I have many more things to learn and many goals to achieve. Over the next five years, I want to continue improving my technical skills, gain industry experience, take on challenging projects, and grow into a successful Data Science professional.

15. What would you like to say about your overall DataMites experience?

Overall, my experience was very positive. The structured learning, practical projects, trainer support, mock interviews, and placement assistance helped me prepare for the Data Science industry. I am grateful for the support I received during my journey and happy that it helped me take my first step into the Data Science field.
